
Whitney Houston has passed away, aged 48.
The Associated Press reports that her publicist Kristen Foster has confirmed the news, though the cause and location is unknown.
TMZ has speculated that she died at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where a crime lab vehicle has been spotted moments ago.
Houston had been working on her big film comeback Sparkle, in which she stars opposite Jordin Sparks. Just earlier TODAY she was linked to a judging role on The X Factor USA.
She will be best remembered for being a pop icon who was a superstar from the middle 80s, with a string if iconic hits including 'I Will Always Love You' and 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody'.
She was also a force to be reckoned with at the Box Office, most notably for 'The Bodyguard'.
Her image was plagued by a string of personal troubles in the later stages of her life, though she did make a musical comeback in 2009 with the hit single 'Million Dollar Bill'.
Mariah Carey has written on Twitter: "Heartbroken and in tears over the shocking death of my friend, the incomparable Ms. Whitney Houston. She will never be forgotten as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth."
She will most definitely be missed. What an utter tragedy.
