With her lip-synched live shows and synthesised recordings, many have assumed that Britney Spears can simply no longer sing.

But in tonight's episode of The X Factor USA she will be seen silencing the critics when she serenades LA Reid for his birthday.

The Epic Records mogul turned 56 during filming for the second season's audition episodes.

The rendition will be aired in tonight's edition of the Fox series, which will also feature a guest stint from The X Factor UK regular Louis Walsh, who steps in to cover a sick Simon Cowell.

Spears and Reid are also joined by teen sensation Demi Lovato.

The X Factor USA debuted last week and broke social media records, despite suffering in the ratings against The Voice and America's Got Talent.

It returns to ITV2 in the UK next Thursday (September 27).
