Britney Spears has been tipped to replace Nicole Scherzinger as a judge on the next series of America's The X Factor.
The Toxic superstar is desperate to join Simon Cowell on the judging panel after Pussycat Dolls singer Scherzinger was given the boot with Paula Abdul.
Spears, who was just 11 when she competed in the US TV talent show Star Search, is now in the running with Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey and Pink for the role.
A source tells The Sun, "She's a huge fan of The X Factor and thinks it's the perfect time for her to be a judge. She wants to show her fans she is back to her best and where better to do that than on national TV every week?
"She knows all about the ups and downs of pop fame. And with her schedule relatively clear she has the time to dedicate to a different project."
Cowell, who produces The X Factor, was thrilled to hear Spears is interested in the job, but admits he has not made any final decisions.
He says, "Are we flattered that there could be interest (from Spears)? Yes. (But) while you've got The Voice and Idol competing with each other, I've learned one lesson: Keep your mouth shut. Don't give it all away.
"There's a load of speculation, some true, some not true. It's true to say that a lot more people have entered the frame this year. We were waiting to see who was going to contact us before we actually contacted people. We're in that place right now, which is a good place to be in. We will meet a number of people over the next few weeks, mainly to explain to them that this is a big commitment when you do a show like this because of the mentoring aspect."
