Actor Matt Smith insists he has "no plans to leave" hit show Doctor Who following the departure of his co-star Karen Gillan.
The redheaded actress, who plays the Time Lord's sidekick Amy Pond, announced last year that she will be leaving the show in 2012, along with Arthur Darvill, who plays her onscreen husband Rory Williams.
But despite her exit, Smith is adamant that he's happy to continue his role in the hit sci-fi series for the foreseeable future.
He tells DigitalSpy, "I always knew that me and Karen would have slightly different journeys in the show. People say, 'Are you not sad?' I am sad because I have enjoyed (working) with Karen and Arthur, they are wonderful guys. But the show is bigger than all of us actors in it.
"It's bigger than everyone in it and it will continue far longer, way after me. I am here for a very small period of time. I'm here for the future, I love working on the show. I have no plans to leave."
But despite confirming his commitment to the series, Smith has revealed that he hopes to make a move into films within the next year.
He adds, "I've got a year of Who and then I'll take it from there really. I am interested in films, I've always loved the idea and process of films and I am actually interested in directing."
