Possibly the busiest woman in music right now, a month doesn't seem to go by without Rihanna releasing yet another single. May it be in the form of an ill advised remix with her ex, another track from her already wildly successful album 'Talk that Talk' or alongside Coldplay; Rihanna doesn't seem able to simply take a break.
Now back again with the first cut from her forthcoming seventh (yes seventh) album, 'Diamonds' looks set to continue the Bajan singer's unstoppable success.
Much like with last year's 'We Found Love' Rihanna has thrown another curveball, releasing a song that bears little resemblance to her previous efforts.
On first listen, 'Diamonds' is by no means as attention grabbing as last year's monster hit 'We Found Love'. Rihanna's unmistakeable; hypnotic vocal slowly draws you in as the song subtly builds.
It's a mid tempo ballad that relies heavily on Rihanna's vocal as oppose to her recent dalliance with heavy bass lines and club friendly backing tracks.
The result? Well it's another resounding success from the biggest name in pop right now.
Of course, Rihanna wouldn't be Rihanna without causing a little controversy, leaving this to the single sleeve, which sees the singer's hand rolling a cigarette paper filled with diamonds.
It's a shame because 'Diamonds', beautiful in it's simplicity, could have sparked the dawn of a new classier Rihanna.
We'll probably have to wait a while for this reinvention but for the time being, it's a step in the right direction.
