REVIEW: Homeland Season 2: Carrie Returns To Duty

Homeland returned to our screens last night and just as you’d expect from a show that’s been lauded by President Obama on occasion, it didn’t disappoint.

As season two began, we saw the aftermath of Carrie’s breakdown at the end of season one. She’s now relaxing and actually taking gardening leave as she’s seen to tend to her garden. But, just as Jack Bauer in 24 could never resist the call of duty, Carrie’s breakdown is soon forgotten as the CIA come calling once again and she’s deployed with a new identity, to the mean streets of Beirut, pursued by a baying mob.

As for central antagonist Nicholas Brody, his apparent heroic status seems to have extended into the political fore as we see him settle into the role of Congressman, whilst doing his best to hide his true terrorist identity. We saw his daughter grab a glimpse of his true persona last season, although the only person convinced that he’s a terrorist is of course Carrie.

Although the two don’t meet in this episode, the cogs are slowly being but in place for their explosive reunion. Nicholas’ role as congressman will only increase his threat to national security, whilst Carrie’s deployment to Beirut may discover untold secrets. It wasn’t a nail biting frenzy of an episode last night, but as the saying goes “good things come to those who wait”.

Homeland is arguably the best show on Television right now, and last night’s episode gave a tantalising glimpse of just how it plans to retain that status.
