Neeson's The Grey threatened with boycott

Animal rights activists are urging film fans to boycott Liam Neeson's new movie The Grey after the actor admitted eating wolf stew in preparation for the role.

In the film, the Irish star plays an oil worker who is stranded in the arctic with a group of colleagues following a plane crash and they are forced to fight for survival as they are hunted by a pack of wolves.

During the shoot, the movie's director Joe Carnahan suggested the cast eat wolf meat to get into character, and Neeson revealed he "went up for seconds of the wolf stew".

However, his comments have infuriated activists at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), who are urging cinema-goers to avoid The Grey in protest.

A statement from PETA reads, "Neeson's stance on kindness to animals is sorely out of step with the rest of the world... Don't just shy away. Run away from The Grey."

Ernest Hemingway - whose father taught him never to shoot anything he wasn't prepared to eat - once ate a breaded lion fillet. He pronounced it good - not unlike Wiener Snitzel.

      Eating wolf is evil.

Despite popular stereotypes, wolves are shy and reclusive animals which are highly intelligent and which interact very well with humans they trust. They feel love, pain and fear. Liam Neeson should feel like a big man for taking the life of such a beautiful creature away from it.

As for the other responses on here, wolves are different from the animals which are more socially acceptable to eat on the basis of conceptualization. Their ability to feel pain and fear is far more advanced than farm animals have shown (with the exception of pigs- which I wouldn't eat). These are verifiable and academic test results which are available to the general public.

Good for Liam! ....PETA are nothing but a bunch of blinkered, hysterical fascists who want to impose their views on the world. They are no better than any other extremist group coating their ambitions in the guise of caring. Beware, the wolves in sheep's clothing.

So these people object to eating Wolf? wat about Dog, Cat, Rat, kangaroo, monkey or any of the other things various peoples eat all over the world? If a person has an objection to eating something then they can not eat it and maybe leave others to do whatever they like.

If PETA is against it then I suppose I'll go see it. How anyone can take PETA seriously is beyond me. They complain about a fly being killed on TV yet they euthanize 90% of the animals in their shelters.
      • Barrie 3 months ago
better to euthanize them than let them die of starvation because the shelter has no funds for their food

Oh my days!!! what a load of tosh!!! So what he ate Wolf.....do we hear them complain about Asian countries eating Dog....?? or keeping live animals in their restaurants for the customer to pick to eat, then its taken out back and killed....?? I think not!!! so get over your self!!

He's doing a spot of methody acting. I'm sure a pack of wolves in ravenous arctic conditions wouldn't hesitate in devouring Mr Neeson if they needed a feed.

Wolves don't eat people in real life, only in the movies.
