    Lambert is Queen's new frontman

Adam Lambert has confirmed he is set to join Queen as the band's new frontman for a tour this summer.

The star was joined by original group members Brian May and Roger Taylor during his finale performance on 2009's American Idol, and the trio teamed up once more at the MTV European Music Awards in November.

The collaborations led to speculation that Lambert would be stepping in to take the place of late singer Freddie Mercury in an upcoming trek, and Taylor fuelled the reports, saying in December, "He has grown into a really great performer with an astonishing voice... We would like to work with him again. There's nothing signed just yet but we're talking about live dates."

Lambert has now announced he will be touring with May and Taylor throughout 2012 - including dates at Knebworth in England, where Queen played their final gig with Mercury in 1986, before his death in 1991.

He tells the Daily Star, "The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some f**king great songs. It’s to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of."

However, Lambert insists he doesn't intend to take Mercury's place: "After the EMAs, I heard faint little slithers of a backlash from people saying: ‘You can’t replace Freddie Mercury.’ But I already knew that.

"There’s no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie. That’s impossible. The way I’m choosing to view it is that it’s a great honour and one I’m in no way going to shirk... Being asked to front Queen is the best thing that can possibly happen."

"There’s no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie. That’s impossible" - That is correct. Carry on.

There was, and only can be one front man to Queen, and that was Freddie. No-one else could measure up

....not even Paul Rogers came close. You can't beat the best you can only fail like the rest! It's not about having a great voice, it's holding a crowd, Freddie Mercury was one of those rare performers not just a singer! There is an enigma to it!

You are right. Donkey. As for Lambert saying it is to keep the music alive, I wasn't aware that it had died. It never will. I loved them, and now my kids do. Get over yourself Mr Lambert, Queens music is the kind of stuff that will be around for generations to come. (Without your help)

Well, we all know they have one thing in common. Maybe that's what made Freddy such a great stage presence.

Ppl, give the guy a chance, if nobody broke the rules of music we'd all be listening to the same thing and I'd hate life then

Didn't anyone see this one coming a mile away? He has already did a trial run on American Idol and it was not too terrible so really it is a natural progression.

Excellent. I missed Queen back in the day because I was grounded due to some bad teenage behavior. There are second chances.

If this is true I have lost all respect I had for Queen and that was a lot.

I felt better about having f@#king Paul Rodgers (who is awesome and should stay with bad co.) as a Queen frontman! At least he was Classic Rock!

No one could replace Freddie, that`s true........ but I think Adam will be a good choice 4 the band as he has a great voice.

Freddie was one of a kind but Adam will do them JUSTICE! I have no problem with him singing in Freddie's place. I'll bet Freddie doesn't mind either, he is probably pushing him in spirit!
