Katherine Jenkins has denied reports she signed up to US TV show Dancing With The Stars in a desperate bid to break America, insisting she agreed to take part to help get over her broken engagement.
The Welsh classical singer has faced years of speculation she is a demanding diva, and fuelled the rumours by signing up for the hit reality show so close to the end of her engagement to TV presenter Gethin Jones last December.
But the star has finally addressed the reports, insisting she simply wanted to focus on having fun after being left heartbroken by the split.
She tells Live magazine, "I started the year in a very different place. I was distraught and didn't know what was going to happen next.
"I thought this was the right time. I felt as if it were a gift that came into my life to cheer me up, do you know what I mean? It put a smile back on my face and I had the best time doing it.
"It was hurtful in January to read that. It couldn't have been further from the truth. I did Dancing With The Stars as something to try and get me back on my feet, to try and make me happy again. I read that I did it because I'm so desperate to crack America, and as a result that's what happened with my relationship."
