Beloved actor Sir David Jason believes Johnny Depp is the only star who could save a planned American remake of his internationally-acclaimed TV comedy show Only Fools & Horses.
Jason insists the very idea of revamping his cult show for an American audience is a terrible idea - but he'd be more inclined to watch if Depp took on his lovable rogue character Del Boy Trotter.
The veteran tells the BBC, "They can do brilliant comedy (in America) but I don't see that they can bring off Fools & Horses (sic). I don't see that it will travel across the pond.
"It might work but you've got to change it so much that, in the change, in order to Americanise it, do you lose the whole concept of the piece? The language will have to change so much and there will be so many parts of the storyline you have to change.
"It's so London and so British... It's London based and it took quite a long time for the rest of the country (Britain) to catch up with the phrases."
Asked if there was anyone who could fill Del Boy's shoes, Jason adds, "You would never get him because he's too big but I'd go for Johnny Depp because he's such a good actor."
Only Fools & Horses was voted Britain's favourite sitcom of all time in 2004 - a year after it went off air after more than two decades.
