Janet Jackson Explains Shocking Weight Gain Was For Scrapped Movie Role

Janet Jackson says that her shocking weight gain several years ago was down to her role in a movie that was subsequently cancelled.

The 45-year-old sparked concerns for her health when she disappeared from the spotlight, only to return extremely overweight. While some claimed she was depressed, Janet has finally set the record straight, saying that she had to gain several pounds for a film role.

"Well, I put on the weight for a film that I was to [suppose] to do and at the very last minute they had to change the schedule of the film, which didn’t work with my schedule so I had to pull out.  I had all of this weight that I had to get off of me," she explained to Jay Leno.

Janet is currently promoting her new book True You while she has also struck up a new deal with Nutrisystem.

    it was the movie Tennessee and Mariah eventually took the role and gained allot of weight as well...if you read her book she's not ashamed to tell her struggles and issues with self esteem and depression.

      yeah and the movie went straight to video. al lthe big names pulled out when janet did. sounds like they should have changed their schedule to acccomdate janet, cause the film would have blown up then.

      not hating on mariah or anything. i like her too. but from a business stand point, janet sales box office tickets. her movies have landed no lower than number 2 at the box office in opening weeks. as singer trying acting, mariah doesn't have that kind of success. her only successful movie was "precioius." and she was only in that for like a combined total of 15min.

    BOLLOCKS ABSOLUTE RUBBISH! THIS WAS A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO SO COULD SHE PLEASE TELL US THE NAME OF THIS SUPPOSED MOVIE AND WE CAN CHECK OUT THE ACTRESS THAT REPLACED HER AND SEE HOW MUCH WEIGHT THIS NEW ACTRESS HAD TO PUT ON? JUST ADMIT IT YOU WERE MAYBE GOING THROUGH A BAD TIME AND EAT MORE THAN USUAL. WE HAVE ALL DONE IT.
