Channel 4It’s now three days into Channel 4’s Hotel GB and service at what is being billed as one of the finest hotels in Britain, seems to be going rather swimmingly. There’s been no complaints of flies being found in soup, or unwashed bedsheets, but instead it seems that the staff, led by Gordon Ramsay and Mary Portas, are taking to their roles with ease!
Tonight we saw a soft side to fearless Dragon Den’s star Hilary Devey, in charge of maintaining the hotel shop. All of the staff come from unemployed backgrounds and there was a touching moment where Devey found common ground with one of the hotel’s chefs, himself an ex addict. She openly spoke of her own son’s experience with heroin addiction, and showed just how groundbreaking the show seems to be.
It may on the surface appear like an ego exercise for Ramsey and Portas, but there’s no denying that they’re dishing out invaluable skills and advice to those most in need.

Meanwhile, spa manager Katie Piper was seen to administer treatments to both young and old alike, although was only too willing to abide by correct ethical guidelines in refusing to administer a particular treatment to a child beauty pageant winner.
It’s testament to the skills of the workers that we didn’t see Gordon Ramsay explode in typical fashion. Instead, the workers seem to be bringing out the best of the grizzled chef. Who said old dogs can’t learn new tricks?
