After last week’s Homeland saw Brody being recaptured by Abu Nazir, tonight’s episode focused on the CIA’s response to this, with the audience left on edge to discover where Brody’s allegiances would once again lie.
Brody’s on-off love interest Carrie is seen liasing with the CIA over his disappearance, knowing that he could easily become a supporter of Abu Nazir once more. Yet, his stint in captivity hardly drove tonight’s episode, but instead he was released by Abu Nazir, presumably to help him with the mystery plot against America that’s been a constant thread this series.
However, as Brody rings Carrie in order to protect his family, it seems as if he’s truly become a good guy once more, warning of a threat to his family.
He later reconvenes with Carrie and it’s at this point that Abu Nazir’s intentions are finally made clear. He warns Carrie that Abu Nazir is planning a terrorist attack on an event where 300 returning troops will be present, as well as the Vice President.
Homeland is definitely a slow burner, gently working up tension within the audience, but now the heat has definitely been turned up. We can’t be sure whether Abu Nazir will succeed, or even if Brody is truly turned to help the CIA, but that’s why we love Homeland, we wouldn’t want it any other way.
