After a ‘gory-ous’ Strictly Come Dancing Halloween special, Eastenders star Sid Owen was given the chop after a dance floor battle with James Bond actor Colin Salmon.  Not even Ola’s hot pants could save them as the majority of the judges opted to keep Colin in the competition.

In what has been a horrifying week full of wicked witches, evil zombies and erm Velma and Shaggy from Scooby Doo, there was always bound to be one casualty- and that role unfortunately went to Sid Owen.

It’s been a tough week for Sid as his professional partner Ola had to fly back to her native Poland due to family issues. Stepping into her place to help Sid train was Iveta Lukosiute, who had previously partnered Johnny Ball when his partner Aliona Vilani was injured. However, this didn’t stop Sid from facing the wrath of the fearsome foursome as they scored him a disappointing 17 points.

Craig Revel Horwood’s score of two was particularly harsh, commenting that the dance was a “Halloween nightmare!” Len meanwhile criticised the couple for playing it too safe before adding: “If you're going to go down, go down fighting”.

After the dance-off in which Colin and Kristina danced the salsa to Stevie Wonder’s ‘Superstitious’ and Sid and Ola did the cha cha cha to the Ghostbusters theme song sung by Ray Parker Jr, the judges made their final decision.

Craig, Darcy and Bruno opted to save Colin and Kristina, with Craig saying that they were “dynamic and simply better dancers”. However, it wasn’t a clean sweep as head judge Len Goodman opted to save Sid after criticising Colin for repeatedly getting steps in his routine wrong. Sadly, this wasn’t enough to keep Sid in the competition and he was forced to say his final goodbyes.

Speaking after his defeat, Sid said: “I have loved every minute of it, thanks to Ola, she is a hard taskmaster but she has been great and we have had so much fun. And now I can even feel comfortable going out and maybe having a little dance.”

Entertaining the audience tonight was singer Paloma Faith who sang her new single ‘Never tear us apart’ which has been made popular due to it featuring on a John Lewis advert. Paloma certainly got into the Halloween spirit as she wore a striking black gown accessorised with a floral headpiece and skull adored jewellery. She was also accompanied by backing dancers who were dressed as spooky skeletons.

Tune into next week’s show to find out who will up for the axe next!
