Animal-loving funnyman Ricky Gervais is celebrating after officials blocked a plan to build a dog farm to breed beagles for laboratory experiments.
The Office creator spoke out last month to tell of his "disgust" at the proposal and offer his support to a campaign by the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) to scrap the project.
An application to build the facility - which would have been used to breed thousands of beagles for animal experiments every year - was submitted to officials in Yorkshire and rejected, but the applicant appealed to the government.
On Thursday it was announced government officials have rejected the appeal and thrown out the proposal - and Gervais is delighted with the ruling.
He says, "I'm so pleased that plans to breed beagles for experiments has been stopped. Think of their little happy furry faces. Thanks to the BUAV for their efforts to protect these beagles and many other animals suffering in our labs."
