    Drama teachers hated Mulligan

Actress Carey Mulligan is hoping teachers at one of London's most prestigious drama schools are aware of her movie success - because they insisted she'd never make it as an actress and should consider a career as a children's TV presenter.

The Shame star was heartbroken when she landed her dream audition at the Drama Centre London and was urged to give up acting.

She recalls, "I was a drama geek, obsessed with acting from a really young age. I just wanted to be in musicals and I wanted my parents to send me to a full on drama school, kind of like Fame, when I was 12 and they stopped me.

"I applied to drama schools instead of universities and got rejected from every one. Drama Centre London told me to be a children's TV show presenter! Auditioning for drama school is just horrendous."

But Mulligan accepts she could have chosen a better audition piece: "I did Psychosis 448, a monologue about someone about to commit suicide, as my audition speech, so there's this incredibly well-adjusted, happy person coming from boarding school and I'm miming slitting my wrists on stage.

"They were like, 'Go home! Or at least experience something other than boarding school.' So that's what I did."

Ironically, the actress is now receiving rave reviews for her performance as Michael Fassbender's suicidal sister in Shame.

That's why teachers teach. If they had any talent themselves, they'd be working in the profession they are supposed to be experts at themselves. As the old adage says, those who can, do. Those who can't, teach

Clearly the drama teachers were unable to spot this young lady's amazing talent.

At the ripe old age of 65 I've seen a good number of movies and movie performances over the years, but I have to say her performance in 'Never Let Me Go' was absolutely fantastic. She has a great future ahead of her, I just hope she gets the roles her brilliance deserves.

Our destinies are not in any teacher's hands. They are there to teach, guide and correct us; but some of them have destroyed us emotionally by saying negative things. My advice is people should stand up for what they believe regardless of any negative words spoken to them. If you maintain a positive and 'can do' attitude, the sky will be your limit. You will have the last laugh.

Battling B, I don't really find this funny. I guess I worded it wrongly by referring to 'us'. Fortunately I have always been an optimist and no one has had the chance to say otherwise to me. But her experience is a common knowledge in our society today. Adele, the singer, had the same experience. Teachers need to be thought how to be positive thinkers, and pass the same on to their pupils.

Who IS this woman? Never heard of her. Honestly, she does look like a children's tv presenter. So I agree with the teacher in a stereotypical manor.
