Demi Lovato has opened up about living in the spotlight with the child star admitting it can he a “blessing and a curse”. The now X Factor US judge has had a difficult time growing up in the spotlight, entering rehab for anorexia and bipolar disorder in 2010.

While she's had to live out her life in the spotlight, the now 20 year-old admits being a star has had it's advantages.

“Just as much as it sucks to have tabloids writing about you, at the same time I had all these issues and I was able to raise awareness because I came out publicly with those issues and then I have tons of fans that come up and tell me, 'Oh, I got help with my eating disorder or this because you came out and said it,' " she reportedly told People magazine the Billboard/THR Film & TV Music Conference, "had it not been for the publicity and the tabloids or whatever it was, they may not have had a chance to save their own lives."

Demi has recently been linked to One Direction stud Niall Horan and while she has denied reports the rumours haven't gone away. While she rubs shoulders with Britney Spears and Simon Cowell at work and dated a Jonas brother, the teenager claims she's no “celebrity”.

"The word 'celebrity,' I just cringe when I hear it,” she explained.

Demi also opened up about how comments online about her weight and appearance, affect her confidence.

She added: "I feel like I went through a period in time where I was reading things about me online and as much as it built me up it also plummeted me down and the negative things I believed them, too."
