The competition might be hotting up, but it appears the ratings figures for the X Factor are cooling down, much to Simon Cowell's reported annoyance.
However, it appears that the media mogul has found a solution following a report from The Sun that Simon wants to have big name artists perform on the Saturday night shows, starting with the One Direction lads, who performed on the US version last night.
A source claimed: "Everyone is worried about the ratings, particularly Simon. Something has to be done.
“Producers have known for some time they’ve had a problem with the main show and have decided to bring in chart-topping acts with a big following to boost ratings.
“If anyone can save the Saturday show, it is One Direction, with their massive following. They are the biggest X Factor act ever and everyone hopes they will bring some of their fans with them."
The source added: “Simon always wants his shows to be number one and this is no different. He’ll do everything it takes to put The X Factor back on top."
Commending the One Direction lads on their performance last night, Simon tweeted:
"One direction were amazing on X factor tonight. Very proud of the boys."
Tomorrow night will see Ella Henderson, Rylan Clark, James Arthur, Jahmene Douglas, District 3, Union J and Chris Maloney take to the stage once more to perform for votes.
