The season premiere of The X Factor USA struggled against a clashing episode of The Voice last night, losing out to its NBC rival by three million viewers.
Although the figure rose significantly in the second hour of the broadcast, the sophomore talent show managed to land 7.5 million viewers, significantly less than the spinny-chair show's 10.7 million.
However, it was a straight tie in terms of demo ratings, with both shows scoring 3.3 overall.
Last year's X Factor premiere, which featured Cheryl Cole, Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul, scored over 12 million against competition from Modern Family.
Simon Cowell had complained publicly about NBC's decision to schedule a Voice episode directly opposite X Factor... and obviously he had good reason!
One victory his show did have, however, was online.
The X Factor dominated the US Twitter trends last night, with no sign of The Voice whatsoever.
