Was Aretha Franklin Banned From Whitney Houston's Funeral After 'Drug' Comments

Aretha Franklin was reportedly banned from attending Whitney Houston's funeral last Sunday after the singer's bereaved mother Cissy learned of comments she made about Whitney and drugs.

The legendary soul singer cancelled her scheduled appearance and performance at the service on Sunday last minute, as she fell ill. However, she later appeared on stage just a few hours later and seemed to have controlled the leg spasms she was said to be having.

Now, a source has revealed that she was actually told by Whitney's mother Cissy that she was not welcome at the funeral in light comments she had said recently about the singer's battle with drugs.

Aretha told Al Roker on the Today show: "Parents have to really talk to their children before they leave home. They have to make sure when they leave home, they have all the right things. She left home with all the right things, but she just kind of lost her way along the way."

As a result, HollywoodLife claimed that Aretha was "banned" because of her "drug comments."

Aretha released a statement explaining that she didn't turn up for her goddaughter's funeral because she wanted to rest her leg as much as possible before her evening show.

Do you think Cissy would have been offended by Aretha's drugs comments?

As the extract from Aretha's interview makes no mention of drugs and also doesn't say whether it was said before or after Whitney died, It's difficult to judge. But on the face of it, I don't find anything offensive in what she said. She wasn't criticising Cissie's upbringing of Whitney, so no, I don't see why she would be offended. Perhaps if the article had been more detailed and we knew more of the facts, the answer would be different.
