As London gears up for the start of the Olympics this weekend the Arctic Monkeys will reportedly perform at the Olympics closing ceremony.

A picture of the Sheffield band rehearsing at the Olympic Stadium surfaced on Twitter this morning (July 26) and has got fans very excited.

The photo in question was posted by Argentinian journalist Martin John Rinaldi with the message: "Arctic Monkeys soundchecking at the OLYMPICS. i KNEW something was up!"

Reports also suggest that Alex Turner and co have recorded a track especially for the event after they headed into London studio earlier this month.

Arctic Monkeys rep has yet to comment on the news.

The Spice Girls have also 'confirmed' that they will be performing at the closing Olympic ceremony.

The girls were in the line up from the start, however it was reported that Victoria Beckham has been hindering the girl bands performance by refusing to take part.

However, it's now been confirmed that all five girls will be taking to that all-important stage, a source told the MailOnline earlier this week (July 20).
