Simon Cowell is making a surprise return to the X Factor tonight.

But before you get too excited, it's only a brief cameo.
The former judge and X Factor boss will appear on tonight's episode to reveal which category each judge will be mentoring this year.
After the judges have narrowed down the contestants to the final 24 at Bootcamp, Tulisa, Nicole Scherzinger, Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh will all nervously await a phone call from the producers to tell them who they will be looking after.

However, unbeknownst to them, this year Simon has taken charge- something we reckon he will have taken immense pleasure in.
Unfortunately Simon won't be telling the judges face- to- face, rather on the phone.

At the time of filming, Simon was in Miami working on the US version on the show so couldn't fly back.
Still, at least we get another glimpse of Simon's lavish lifestyle- just look at how big his Miami pad is!
With Simon's return and Cheryl Cole and Sharon Osbourne's judges houses appearances airing next week, this series is shaping up to be an X Factor reunion of sorts.
All we need now is Dannii Minogue turning up (perhaps as a stand in if a judge falls sick) and we'll have a full house.
