Talking on Australian TV show 60 Minutes, Russell explained why the 14-month marriage broke down.
He said: "Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it don't, but if you sort of sense there's an incompatibility, then in any relationship regardless of the status of the individual, it kind of is best to go separate ways."
The comedian then gave advice on how to avoid a marriage much like his own.
He explained: "I think if you're someone who's really into mountain biking, it would be good to go out with someone else who's into mountain biking."

"If you're really into Eastern mysticism, go out with someone else who into Eastern mysticism."
Russell later added: 'I think if you're a devoted tennis professional and you get married to a crystal meth addict, you might have trouble… I've been in a lot of trouble.'

The funnyman was recently linked to Spice Girl Geri Halliwell after the two hit it off at the Olympics closing ceremony.
However, it seems the two were just as incompatible as Katy and Russell with the romance ending after just thirteen days.
