US gossip website Radar Online published the recording which was taken from a conversation between Paris Hilton and a male friend while in the back of a taxi.

Unbeknownst to the two, the taxi driver was secretly recording their conversation.

The two were talking about Grindr, a popular phone app that allows members of the gay community to chat to other users then find the nearest location they can meet.

On hearing about the app, Paris can be heard launching into a tirade of homophobic remarks.

She said: "Ewww. Eww. To get f****d? Gay guys are the horniest people in the world. They're disgusting. Dude, most of them probably have AIDS."

Later on in the recording, Paris can be heard saying: "I would be so scared if I were a gay guy. You'll like, die of AIDS."

The taxi driver who leaked the recording told Radar Online: "I couldn't believe what was coming out of Paris' mouth and the way she was talking about gay men."

The recording of the alleged conversation took place on 7 September after Paris had attended New York Fashion week.

A statement regarding the recording has since been released by Paris' people, bizarrely claiming that Paris was in fact highlighting the dangers of unprotected sex.

It reads: "Paris Hilton's comments were to express that it is dangerous for anyone to have unprotected sex that could lead to a life threatening disease.

"The conversation became heated, after a close gay friend told her in a cab ride, a story about a gay man who has AIDS and is knowingly having unprotected sex. He also discussed a website that encourages random sex by gay men with strangers."

The statement then went on to claim that the recording that had been released was taken out of context by Radar Online.

"As she was being shown the website her comments were in reference to those people promoting themselves on the site. The cab driver who recorded this, only provided a portion of the conversation."

"It was not her intent to make any derogatory comments about all gays."

"Paris Hilton is a huge supporter of the gay community and would never purposefully make any negative statements about anyone's sexual orientation."
