Kate Middleton is picture perfect at first solo engagement

Kate Middleton gave us wardrobe envy yet again with her Jesire coat dress and Jimmy Choo heels at the Lucian Freud Portraits exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London yesterday.

It was a special moment for the Duchess of Cambridge, as she was stepping out on her first public engagement without Prince William by her side since their wedding last April.

Kate recently became the royal patron of the gallery and was centre of attention at the private view, which also attracted Bella Freud, Mary McCartney and Jefferson Hack.

It must have been great for Kate to mix official duties and pleasure, as the Duchess studied art history at St Andrew's University.

We particularly love the extra details of Kate's outfit, like her black belt, bracelet and necklace.

Her hair was perfect as ever thanks to a four hour session in Richard Ward's salon on Monday.

The Duchess is keeping busy while Wills is in the Falkland Islands for six weeks. She's taking the opportunity to make solo appearances, with an aide telling the Daily Mail: "She is raring to go."

She'll be heading to Liverpool for Valentine's Day to visit Alder Hey Children's Hospital and alcohol-free bar The Brink, which is linked to an organisation she is patron of, Action on Addiction.

We imagine there'll be plenty of fans hoping to give Kate a Valentine's gift while William's away.

Yahoo on the link to this you call her "K Middy" - now I know this is the gossip pages and not a high brow publication but seriously do you have to resort to everything and everyone being reduced to a TOWIE style shambles. People don't get "well jel", thnk they look "gorge" or any of the other rubbish you print outside of your office or the TOWIE writers heads.

The most stunning lady to grace the Royal Family since the sad loss of Lady Diana but thankfully just as caring and compassionate well done Duchess Of Cambridge a title well deserved

Absolutely adore that dress and I don't wish to be cruel but, something about her face makes her look unhealthy and much older than she is, maybe it's something to do with the lack of or the right kind of food.

I know this won't be popular but I'm not warming to her. She's too slick. Where's the little touch of nerves or humble smile for someone so new to this life? She's far too poised like someone who has been spolit all her life and just expects a gushing reaction wherever she goes no matter who she's married to. I know I'm probably being a bit harsh but she's not giving me anything other than smiling autobot and I find that hard to warm to.

Tad harsh there. I'm sure in this day and age she has got more than a few lessons under her belt on how to act in public and how to behave around the press. I personally prefer her naturally comfortable appearance with hospital patients etc... than some of the others who have looked unnatural and wanting to be anywhere else. Just my opinion too of course.

You're right. I can tell she's a nice girl but she's also very contained. I want a little mistake or blush to humanize her a bit. (Not that I'd like her to be like Diana. I wouldn't want her to be a clone of anybody). She's just on 'smile and walk' mode too much.
