The 29-year-old singer debuted the huge rose tattoo, which covers the entirety of her lower back, during the first night of the Girls Aloud ‘Ten’ reunion tour on Thursday night.
Talking backstage to The Sun, Cheryl revealed that she got the inking five months ago.
She said: “I actually got it five months ago — but it’s somewhere on my body you wouldn’t expect people to see it very often.
“It was done by this amazing artist called Nikko Hurtado who basically travels round the world going to conventions.”
Cheryl went on to admit that she was now finished with getting tattoos due to the painful experience she went through with the rose design.
She admitted: “It was really painful but I think I’m done with tattoos now.
“It wasn’t for any particular reason, I just liked the design. It took 15 hours in total.”

Cheryl went on to admit that she had tried to convince the rest of her Girls Aloud band mates to get matching tattoos to commemorate their reunion.
However, the girls weren’t particularly keen on the idea.
Cheryl said: “I was up for getting a small something done for the reunion but the girls aren’t quite so keen.”
Nicola Roberts, 27, added: “I’m too pale for a tattoo — it would stand out like a sore thumb. I might just get a dot like Phoebe from Friends.”
After pictures of Cheryl’s tattoo were released, fans were split as to whether they liked it or not.
One omg! user wrote on Facebook: "I like Cheryl, i like tattoos, but that's feckin vile. Looks like a massive birthmark. (sic)"
Another however was more complimentary saying: "I Don't usually like tattoos on girls, but Cheryl looks fab. (sic)"
