Adele called a ‘little too fat’ by fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld

Adele is famed for her voice not her figure, but today it's exactly that which has caused controversy as fashion's finest, Karl Lagerfeld insults the singer.

In an interview with the Metro, Chanel's creative director snubbed the star saying she's 'a little too fat'.

Lagerfeld clearly admires British singers, as he employed  Lily Allen to be the face of Chanel in 2009,  but Adele won't be getting a call any time soon, unless it's to make an apology.

When asked about Lana Del Rey the designer said:

"I prefer Adele and Florence Welch. But as a modern singer she is not bad. The thing at the moment is Adele.

"She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice."

We don't think the fashion heavyweight's second statement will win him any fans from Adele's camp!

On her size the Someone Like You Singer has previously said: "It's just never been an issue — at least, I've never hung out with the sort of horrible people who make it an issue.

"I have insecurities of course, but I don't hang out with anyone who points them out to me."

In 2004, Karl Lagerfeld was forced to apologise by H&M after he complained that his collection for the fashion chain was available in size 16. He said he had created the line for 'slim, slender, people.'

Mr Lagerfeld famously shed six and a half stone by eating horse meat, tomatoes and drinking Diet Coke.

You'd think, given his experiences he'd have some consideration of Adele's feelings, but it appears not.

We're waiting to hear now what Adele makes of all this, we hope she bites back with something juicy!

Karl Lagerfield should step out into the real world a bit more, where people come in different shapes, sizes, and colours--and diversity is not seen as a fashion impediment.

Karl Lagerfeld ummm. in reply shouldn't Adele retort with "well at least i don't collect muses like i collect Gold, platinum awards for my albums sold !!!

The best action for Adele, is no action. What he says is not worthy of the publicity it has received and any retort from Adele would simply add to the publicity. The media sensationalises bad behaviour and breeds indifference. The less we give them to use as ammunition, the better. I agree with your point though, but adele doesn't need to tell him this, he already knows. Ironically, he was actually complimenting her on this.

you have answered my comment in an intelligent way ,thank you for reading it ,

Not to excuse what he said, and he is the fault behind this in the first palce....but it seems he was implying that she was "too fat" to be the head of a campaign like channel...Which anyone above size 2/4 is....He did say she was beautiful though which is more important to most people than being stick think

Dont be silly! What, Adele is supposed to say, Thank you for calling me beautiful even though you 1st called me fat??!! Really? Spoken like a typical guy!

Karl there is an innappropiate image of a model on yahoo with a model who has a twenty inch waist. You want to promote that image to young girls do you. Thank the lord there is sane ppl out there and another thing Adeles size is none of your concern. You are having to resort to using a shirt to hold up your neck as all the surgery that can be done on you can be done no more. Why does the media promote these imbeciles.

I agree with you Amanda. I am more like Adele and still would prefer to look like Adele than that 20-inch waist model. The model looks so anorexic it is gross. Stay beautiful Adele.

Did she call him and ask to model his clothes? Did she even call him to ask for freebies, or to even buy any? No? So what then is his problem?

Here we go again....someone who is the " perfect weight " ( or so they think ) making totaly uncalled for remarks about someones size. You can make remarks about someones colour or race & find yourself being prosecuted by the law. But insult someone about thier weight and for some reason, that seems to be OK. Mind you,I would rather be overweight than look like someone who has been embalmed for the last couple of years. Maybe he should take a look in his own mirror before making remarks about others.

Well he is entitled to his opinion but his words will strike a chord with many influential young girls ( and men) who will then go on to starve themselves as they think it is 'unacceptable' to be anything other than a size 0. We all come in different shapes and sizes, Adele is beautiful and far from unhealthily overweight. It is sad that rather than appreciate her amazing talent and inspire people in that way, her shape is what is the issue.

Lagerfeld is yet another complete and utter tit head. Who gives rats behind what someone looks like. It is the talent that is important. The look is only important to fashion designers and the like, those that make money from selling the look. Lagerfeld is too old, too wrinkled and too pale to be in any position to critisise others. As are many of the others of his ilk.

does being over weight make you less of a person, no one is perfect if you happy in your self thats ok if not you change it. some people will always have issues about weight mostly male designers who don't know what real women are
