EXCLUSIVE The Overtones: One Direction are like The Beatles

Doo-wop group The Overtones have likened the popularity of One Direction to that of The Beatles.

The Overtones have likened One Direction's success to that of The Beatles.

Talking exclusively to omg! The Overtones told us why they thought the former X factor group have garnered so much attention.

Darren told us:  "They are like a young Beatles act and I think they get a reaction because of who they are and their style, you know, the fact that they are a young boy band."

"It does seem pretty crazy but they are having the time of their lives, they are absolutely loving it."

When it comes to their own experience with fans, The Overtones admit that they prefer being able to get on with their own lives without being constantly badgered.

Timmy explained: "When it comes to fans we always spend time with them and a few minutes chatting and getting photos but I like being able to go about my daily business as well, I feel lucky enough to be able to have both."

Lachie added: "It's a nice experience but I want to get on the tube- it's quicker than a taxi."

While Darren joked: "I hate the tube, I can't wait for my blacked out car."

The Overtones are gearing up for the release of their second album 'Higher'

The Overtones are gearing up for the release of their second album 'Higher' with the video for lead single, 'Loving the Sound', seeing the guys perform an elaborate dance routine throughout the ages.

You can watch the video here.

With such a slick dance routine, it would be safe to assume that all five members of the group are accomplished dancers. However, the boys explained that it took some longer than others to pick up the complicated choreography.

Lachie told us: "Timmy and Mark are really quite slick movers and the rest of us just watch on!"

Mike added: "We went out to LA to record 'Loving the Sound' and we had a few days by the pool which was probably a bit of a mistake in hindsight because when it came to the rehearsals two days before the shoot  we were in holiday mode."

"When we got into the dance studio we met the choreographer and started learning the steps for the video- for me it definitely took a lot longer to pick up than the others!"

So could the group rival the moves of t-shirt lifters JLS? Well, Timmy believes that the routine for 'Loving the Sound' could in fact compete with the shape throwing of a certain booty shaker.

He boasted: "I think we could rival Beyonce in her 'Love on Top' video. Come on Beyonce bring it on!"

The Overtones album 'Higher' and single 'Loving the Sound' are out on Monday 1 October.

Come back tomorrow when omg! will be streaming an exclusive first listen of the album.
