The Grammy Awards was full of emotion on Sunday as stars paid tribute to Whitney Houston, who died aged 48 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel the day before.

She said: "I was having a pre-Grammy party for the nominations. I invited Whitney to come.

"We had a great time Thursday night. She came out. We hung out. We danced. I wasn't expecting her to sing. She just walked up on the stage. We embraced each other and she said: 'Give me the mike.'"

"As a human being she's always been very nice to me and my family when we've crossed paths throughout the years. She sang the backdrop of our lives."

Was never the same, during and after her marriage to Bobby Brown. One of a long line of divas, from an era, where all that was required was a microphone and a voice. None of the 'sexified' videos and performances of today, where 'singers' wear their bodies outside their clothes, to distract from the fact that their voices aren't up to much. RIP, sister girl.

        You did'nt like her then?

Kimo . They have to have all these videos today because they cant sing. Whitney was one of the elite female singers who had a wonderful voice. Not like todays so called singers.

I think Brian has missed the point!

Can you hear that thumping noise. It's the sound of people jumping on the bandwagon. Bet they never thought about her until now.

Did you see the ITunes sales last night? And in next few days they will have albums out for her that they will all buy. Pretensious fans.

Well, we've seen that before.... Talented artist becomes a hit, screws up majorly because of drugs, no one cares because bad news sell (or jinx you if you associate yourself with it). Then (s)he dies and everyone's his/her close friend/admirer/grew up listening to all his/her records and only started singing/playing because of him/her. A bit ridiculous really. She didn't sing the backdrop of my life at any moment but she did have a stunning voice and had better songs than the Mariahs and Celines that followed. I wish showbiz cared about their talents in life as much as they do in death. RIP Whitney

So why are the kids lining up to be 'famous' on X Factor, BGT etc. etc? Dead end job. Give me a plumber or electrician etc. any time. They're the REAL workers in this country. Anybody can sing, just ask those in community choirs.
      • Rodrigo 3 months ago
Well Pat, the answer to that requires a study of human behaviour that involves digging deep into the world of celebrity worshipping, Big Brother, Hello magazine and other useless things to society, all of which mean absolutely nothing to me and have nothing to do with music. I agree with you that real workers are the backbone of a nation. But no, not everybody can sing. Singing in a choir, with your voice blended into a collective chant does not mean you're a good singer.

Does make me wonder if these 'stars' are saying this because they felt something for her or just because its 'the done thing to do' Where were they a few weeks ago when she was getting trashed by the media etc. If i had an 'idol' when i was young, and grew up wanting to be just like them, then got to the 'top run' of the music ladder while they were on there way down. Id actully try and help them out. Ask them if they wanted to do a duet or something, Spesh if shes a 'genius' like they are all crowing now. It seems the done thing nowadays to ignore old music stars/trash them right upto untill they die... When they automaticlly become music gods, which the world cant live without. Its a shame she died (for any one to die is sad) but it does anger me with the way they make out she was an amazing singer upto her last days on earth when the fact was no one would really touch her with a 10ft pole because she was a HUGE risk and her voice wasnt what it used to be. Its like Amy winehouse. a few weeks before she died, she was pictured in papers/gossip mags etc falling over p**sed upto to the gills with the words JUNKIE printed somewhere in the report. Not 24 hours after she died the word 'Junkie' was quickly replaced by 'troubled', the photos change to her in dresses, smiling nicely for the cameras, waving to fans, hugging god knows who. With words like "Rest in peace angel" above her head.

Jennifer Hudson sounded terrible. I'm embarrased for her!
      • Pat 3 months ago
I agree. She DID sound terrible. It was a dreadful cover of a beautiful song. It would have been better for them to play Whitney's version.
      • The TM 3 months ago
Os asked Dolly Parton to sing it. It was her song after all!
      • janet 3 months ago
This is being made worse by the radio stations replaying Jennifers rendition!! Cringe worthy! She can sing but not that song!

Now they will all be cashing in on their links to Whitney. False statements from false friends. Where were they when she so obviously needed them.
    • Shino  •  Bradford, England  •  3 months ago
where were they when the hollywood wolves devoured her soul, and the spotlight killed her character. she died some time ago, during the time you all were backbiting her.

LA. as ever, Too little, Too late. Unfortunately, you have to die out there first, before you are appreciated. Well in that case, there are plenty more to go.

I know this sounds nasty, but my first thought was, where was all this love when she was alive and falling over? Also, the awards, Tony Bennett & Amy Winehouse, on U-tube sound appalling, you can hardly make out what Amy was singing and i AM a fan. How many of the awards were due to deaths and honouring those deaths/
Adele earned hers, how many of us can name a country artist that's both young, pretty and been heard of?
Sme old same old with a sad side note a death of a young, pretty talented artist, who shone bright, then corrupted and never really found her way back..

I don't get the people who say " I didn''t like nim/her" or even " I loved him/her" .... how can you dislike or love someone you don't even know? All you're disliking or loving is the media reports about them - and that's what you use and go on, to judge them according to your own narrow little worlds and values. So what if they're celebrities? It doesn't mean they're robots; it doesn't mean they don't hurt or feel pain. All it means is that people like us put them on pedestals and expect them to stay there - and wo! betide them if they slip off it!!! Before celebrity, they were normal human beings, and in death, they are normal human beings. Society itself must take some blame for making them celebrities in the first place.

No wonder the world is a mess with this amount of vitriolic hatred amongst us.

Whitney Houston died at a young age and left a daughter behind. No matter what anyone on here thinks they know, judging by the reports, her daughter is devastated by her mother's death. And she knew her! So how about some respect for her and her feelings?
